What are the precautions to be taken when casting ductile iron using the lost foam production process?

2025-06-30

The lost foam production process can be applied to most casting production, so what are the precautions to be taken when using the lost foam production process to cast ductile iron?

1. Pouring system. When using disappearing molds to produce ductile iron, special attention should be paid to the pouring speed and time during the pouring process, and the problem of wall adhesion should be considered;

2. Riser design. The shrinkage efficiency of the riser in lost foam casting, the position and size of the riser, and the balance between the self expansion of the molten iron volume and the shrinkage of the molten iron during the graphite precipitation process are all issues that ductile iron manufacturers need to pay special attention to;

3. Opening time. In the production process of ductile iron, the time required for the process conflicts with the sand treatment capacity, which can lead to a forced reduction in the unboxing time. This has a significant impact on the quality of ductile iron, especially for thick and large ductile iron, and poses a greater threat to its performance. Therefore, casting manufacturers using the lost foam process need to balance the opening time and sand treatment;

4. Annealing. When using the lost foam process to produce ductile iron, a necessary step is annealing. Annealing plays an important role in temperature, graphite morphology and quantity, as well as iron content, which can effectively eliminate casting stress and ensure the quality of ductile iron castings.

The above is the list of precautions that should be taken when producing ductile iron castings compiled by the manufacturer of lost foam molds. We hope it can be helpful to you!
